In order to recover from the self destructing meal number 11 we decided to make one of our personal favorite meals for all of you: Brussel Sprouts of New York.
The best part of this meal is we use the most confusingly named steak, New York strip steak.
It is also known as Kansas City strip steak, Hotel-Style steak, Boneless Club Steak, sirloin steak, ambassador steak, and other names. Might as well be called the Cringey Kitchen steak if you ask me, everyone else is naming it, why not us?!
Regardless of not being sure of what to call it, this steak is an absolute delight to have around the kitchen. It is flavorful, has a great personality and is delicious with a simple sprinkle of salt and pepper. We grilled ours a little too much, but it was very close to that perfect amount of pink. Just like my cute cheeks.
Fortunately, the rest of our ingredients are much more universally named. In the picture above, you can see we put our halved brussel sprouts into a colander, also known as: the kitchen item most often worn on the head.
Stir fry those brussels, until you get that nice brown that we like. Save yourself some dishes and swap those sprouts out for your onions.
Keep your spices on the food, not the floor,

Brussel Sprouts on New York
Ingredients
- 1 lb of Brussel Sprouts halved (Donβt have to be from New York)
- 2 Strips of Bacon diced
- 1 tsp of Honey
- 2 tbsp of Balsamic Vinegar
- 1 Small Onion sliced
- 3 New York Strip Steaks
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
-
On medium heat, heat up a pan for the bacon. Once hot, toss bacon in and cook until nice crispy. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon and set aside for later use. In the same pan with the bacon fat, toss in your brussel sprouts. Cook until brussel sprouts are slightly browned. Remove from heat and transfer to a lined baking pan. Bake brussel sprouts in oven for 30-45 minutes. When the brussel sprouts are done, remove from oven and sprinkle with your crispy bacon.
-
While your brussel sprouts are baking, heat olive oil in a pan and toss in your onions. Cook for a few minutes until your onions begin to caramelize. Mix balsamic vinegar and honey in a small bowl, then pour your mixture into your pan with your caramelized onions. Cook until onions absorb the vinegar and honey.
-
Steaks are simple. Pat your steak dry and season both sides with salt and pepper. Grill on both sides for a 2-3 minutes on each side and set aside to rest.
-
Assemble your plate with brussel sprouts on the side and your steak covered in your onion mixture.
