Sushi Rice

Sushi rice is not just your standard white rice. The flavor from the vinegar and honey complement the the fish. I made ours in a rice cooker, but you can also make this recipe in an InstantPot.

Sushi Rice

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 inch piece of kombu
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp honey
  • ½ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse rice until the water is no longer murky. Cook rice in a rice cooker or InstantPot with the water and a piece of kombu on top.
  2. While rice is cooking, heat rice vinegar, honey, and salt in a small saucepan over medium high heat until mixture begins to simmer. Remove from heat and whisk until honey and salt are completely dissolved.
  3. When rice is done cooking, drizzle rice vinegar mixture over cooked rice and mix until rice is evenly coated.
  4. Cover rice with a damp towel while it cools to a workable temperature.Using saran wrap, pack sushi rice into small blocks.
