Layered Berry Smoothie

November 8, 2017 by Chef T

For me, smoothies aren’t about being beautiful. I make them for breakfast because I can just throw things into a spinning blade, and out comes something nutritious that I can take on the road.

And it usually tastes pretty good!

But in this Cringey Kitchen adventure, we wanted to challenge ourselves and make a smoothie that is as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside. So, we layered it.

This smoothie is one blend and then another blend put together in the same cup. Each of them can be had separately, but they look good together.

The contrasting flavors we decided on was strawberry banana and avocado berry. Not only do they taste different, they also have two different consistencies which adds to the fun.

The avocado berry smoothie is thick but fluffy, while the strawberry banana smoothie is thin and silky.

Keep your spices on the food, not the floor,

Layered Berry Smoothie

Prep Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes
Servings 2 Thirsty Smoothie Boys

Ingredients

Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1 ½ cups Strawberries frozen
  • 1 Banana frozen
  • 1 tbsp Hemp Seeds
  • 1 cups Hemp Milk
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Walnuts

Berry Smoothie

  • 1 cup Blueberries/Blackberries frozen
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 tbsp Hemp Seeds
  • 1 cups Hemp Milk
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Spinach

Instructions

  1. Important to start with frozen fruit! Make sure to wash and trim your strawberries and peel your banana before you freeze them.
  2. Combine all of the strawberry smoothie ingredients in a blender and blend for a minute or until no fruit chunks are left. Pour smoothie into 2 glasses or bottles and place in the freezer for an hour.
  3. Next blend the berry smoothie ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  4. Remove the strawberry smoothie from the freezer and pour the second smoothie on top. Pour slowly to avoid them mixing together because the two tone looks great in pictures.
